ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING
I can still remember, one of the
lessons discussed from our Marketing subject during our college was the product
life cycle. As a summary, it talks about the journey of a certain product from
the time it has been produced, its availability in the market until the
realization of how the product is performing, and right there, the maturity of
the product becomes an issue, where sellers need to evaluate if the product is
growing or declining, and what needs to be done.
I am writing this blog article to
give my personal observation on the relationship between the product life cycle
and a person's attitude to work.
Disclaimer: These are just my
personal reflections.
The first stage in the cycle is
the INTRODUCTION. -- Like a physical product, a person who is new to his role
and the job that he is about to do has a very exciting mindset, he is fresh and
has the ability to work efficiently and effectively, he works beyond what normally
does on a daily basis. In other words, this person is eager and full of
excitement to learn everything along his journey with the company.
Second, the GROWTH. In this
stage, the product's performance is being observed. -- Few months after the
person started his job, he became noticeable. His co-workers are now aware with
how his job is well done consistently. He also has a good relationship towards
his co-employees and that makes him even more eager to do his job.
The third stage is the MATURITY.
In this phase, the product becomes the demand of every buyer. --The person who
works really smart, does his job religiously, and with full of dedication that
resulted to best practice, has become the standard of the company. Everyone
started to change their perspectives with how they are used to play their
respective roles from then and seeing this person working very good, he can now
be ready to be promoted to a higher position which everyone in the office
supports the idea. He is now becoming the best fit of the company's business
model and can definitely contribute a positive impact of the organization.
Everyone can say that this person is fully equipped.
Lastly, the DECLINE stage. This
is the last stage of the product life cycle; the product continous its
momentum, and due to an unstoppable and increasing demand from the public, the
fear of sustainability now becomes and issue. -- Right, everyone in the office
sees the person's capability to handle the company. But due to some reasons,
this person suddenly forgets to remind himself that there are still boundaries
and limitations with what he is currently doing. And that leads him to still be
at his current role considering how many years have passed. One day, the
management decided to just transfer him to another department.
His journey as an employee has
taught him a very important lesson while he is at work, that is, "we can
always be good at work. We can share ideas, collaborate, help each team member,
and give the best out of it. Most of the time, what we practice becomes our
habit, and it is dangerous when we are aware that we are doing the mediocrity,
we still continue doing it because we have never changed our perspective in the
job that we do. Sometimes, we look at our colleagues our competitors, that is
why we are not moving because we are so focused about them. The last stage,
which is the DECLINE is probably be our journey because we failed to innovate
and develop ourselves, we forget to remind ourselves that at the end of the
day, ATTITUDE is still everything. We need the attitude to work, and first
requirement of it is to have an open mind, as it shows the willingness to learn
and improve."
I've learned so much while I am
writing this post. I hope you also have takeaways, too.
Have a good one!
